Patents on perseveration of nucleic acid amplification reagent etc.authorized by SIPO of China

Four patents submitted by Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute (YSFRI) were issued by State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) recently. The four patents mainly focus on the innovation of the preservation method of nucleic acid amplification reagents. The name of the four patents are 1) reaction reagents of nucleic acid isothermal amplification that can be preserved and transported at room temperature (Patent Number ZL201210179864.5),2) preservation method of reagents of nucleic acid isothermal amplification based on the using of gel (Patent Number ZL201210178918.6), 3) preservation method and relative reagents of PCR reagents based on the using of gel (Patent Number ZL201210178919.0), 4) preservation method and relative reagents of PCR reagents based on the using of porosint (Patent Number ZL201210192845.6), respectively.

The technology of nucleic acid amplification represented by polymerase chain reaction and isothermal amplification were rapidly developed in the past 20 years. These newly developed technologies of nucleic acid amplification were widely used to detect pathogenic microorganism. However, the application of the pathogens detecting kits and products based on nucleic acid amplification were limited in some degree by the requirement of low-temperature storage condition of the reaction reagent. The researchers in YSFRI found that the activity of the low-melting point gel- or porosint- embedded reagent of nucleic acid amplification can maintain over one month when it was stored at room temperature. Additionally, the low-melting point gel-embedded reagent of nucleic acid amplification will convert into liquid form which is beneficial for the enzymatic amplification when it is used for reaction at higher temperature. The methods of reagent perseveration at room temperature were developed base on these findings and the methods demonstrated impressive advantages of low-cost, easy to use and high efficiency. Then the application for patents of perseveration methods and reaction reagents were submitted to SIPO of China in 2012.

Presently, the reagent perseveration methods of the patents are applied in the 22 serial Highly Sensitive and Rapid Detection Kits of aquatic animal disease which were developed in succession by YSFRI in 2009. It is anticipated that the authorization of the above four patents will help to accelerate the widespread use of the newly developed nucleic acid amplification diagnosis technic and products for aquatic animal diseases.

In addition to the above mentioned four patents, “a probiotic preparation to enhance the anti-virus ability in cultured shrimp” has also been licensed as invention patent in China recently, with the patent number of ZL201080003969.4. This patent was invented by YSFRI staff, including Prof. Song Xiaoling, Dr Huang Jie, Ms Yang Bing and Ms Liu Li.

Viral disease is one of the severest problems for shrimp culture in the world, especially White spot syndrome (WSS) disease. This patent provides a probiotic preparation, which can increase the cellular and humoral immunity, especial can enhance the ability of anti-virus disease for cultured shrimp. The probiotic preparation is composed by the resting spores of Bacillus firmus SSL065 and the component of Vibrio alginolyticus SSL073, it were isolated from digestive tract of healthy cultured shrimps, Litopenaeus vannamei. This probiotic preparation can be add to formulated feeds in order to improve survival rate of cultured shrimp, after latent infected or infected by WSSV.
