“Beidou”, operated by Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, was donated by Norwegian government in 1984. It is a modern marine survey vessel with a length of 56.4m and total tonnage of 1165 GT, powered by a 2250hp engine and two 850hp auxiliary engines. The vessel is able to accommodate 56 staff, equipped with modern communication and navigation apparatus, and a variable-pitch propeller with forward, backward and sideway propellant, “Beidou” can carry out marine living resource and chemical, physical, biological surveys . Major research facilities on board include an acoustic instrument room, a hydro-laboratory, a fish lab, a marine chemistry lab, and a physical oceanography lab, a bottom trawl, a pelagic trawl, an agassiz trawl, and a plankton trawl.
